NEW MEMBER CLASS BEGINS IN JUNE: Pastor Brechbuhl will begin a New Member Class/Confirmation Class in June on a week day evening at 7 pm. This class meets once a week for an hour for three months. We discuss the basic teaching of the Bible. If you would like to participate, please call him at the church office at 243-3419.
Sunday School: Growing in Christ Sunday School Superintendent: Kevin Tavender Grades Pre-K3 - Gr 8 Today in Sunday School the children learned that as God did with Paul, so God does with us. Through the Law we are crushed by the weight of our sin and are helpless. As God revived Paul through Ananias (Acts 9:1–31), He revives us through our pastors with the proclamation of His Word and the administration of His Sacraments granting forgiveness, life, and salvation to all who believe. Talk to your children about how the Sacraments and God’s Word revive you so that you may live as God’s child.
HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS - Mr. CRAIG R. BUSSEAU, Salem's principal, is leading and teaching a Sunday School Bible Class just for you each Sunday morning. The class meets in Pastor Brechbuhl's office at 9:30 AM.
EVIDENCE FOR THE RESURRECTION Led by Pastor Brechbuhl, this class, in the Fellowship Hall, will examine the historical, archaeological, and cultural proofs for Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. Discover the evidence that has convinced critics over the years. For instance, did you know that 39 ancient sources (aside from the New Testament), such as Pliny, Josephus, and the Talmud, refer to the life of Christ, his teachings, crucifixion, and/or resurrection? With the Bible more than 120 Powerpoint slides are used.
WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY? covers the basics teachings of the Christian faith. Some doctrinal topics to be covered are: the Trinity, forgiveness, man, creation, Judgment Day, angels, the sacraments, the church, our walk with God. This class, offered on Sunday mornings at 9:15 AM,. This 'New Member Class' is available for members and prospective members alike. This class is taught by Pastor Salcido.
BASEMENT BIBLE CLASS: Please join us in the church basement on Sunday mornings at 9:15 AM after fellowship coffee. We study the lessons that are being presented in our student classes. Our small, informal group studies the text/event for that Sunday with an adult application for our Christian lives.

LIFE LINES Written by Jeanne Strubbe Life Ministry Coordinator, Salem Lutheran Today is the day we set aside to honor our mothers who gave us life, loved and nurtured us and made many personal sacrifices for us. God looks upon motherhood in a distinct and special way, unlike the worldly view that modern feminism has wrought. God created woman to be merciful by nature as He made man to be a protector by nature. In Isaiah 66:13 we read “As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.” Also, 1 Thessalonians 2:7 tells us “We were gentle when we were with you, like a mother taking care of her children.” The Bible also gives many references to the way God is involved with women and their pregnancies. Genesis 21:`1-2 “The Lord came to help Sarah and did for her what He had promised. So she became pregnant.” Genesis 30:17 says “God answered Leah’s prayer. She became pregnant…” Based on just these few verses, we know that God wants a culture of Life because of the very nature He placed in woman to bear and nurture life and in man to be the protector of life. Intentionally aborting a child is an unnatural act against the very essence of being a woman and the way God created the first woman, Eve. John 1:1-4 tells us “He (Christ) was in the beginning with God. Everything was made by Him. In Him was Life and the Life was the light of mankind.” ALL things were made by God, including the tiny human in the womb. Martin Luther left no doubt about how he viewed the sin of abortion. “There should be no trifling with those who are pregnant, but they should be objects of constant care. Those who have no regard for pregnant women and do not spare the tender fruits are murderers.” Thank your mother today for giving you the gift of life.

NEW CHURCH ORGAN Committee Update #3 The Committee has now met with representatives of the Rodgers Organ Company and the Allen Organ Company and received their proposals. Arrangements have now been made for Rodgers to install a temporary “demonstration” organ, comparable to their proposal for Salem, for the congregation to use on Sundays, May 18th & 25th. Arrangements have also been made for Allen to install a temporary “demonstration” organ for the congregation to use on Sundays, June 1st & 8th. While you will have an opportunity to listen, experience and examine the “demonstration” organs in the next four weekends our organists will also be examining the features of these instruments between Sundays. In the meantime the committee is also in the process of soliciting and receiving responses to a questionnaire sent to customers of the two the organ companies. Those responses will then be collated and considered by the committee in their decision making process. The Organ Committee is now examining, evaluating and comparing the specifications and costs of the different models the organ companies have brought to the committee. After reviewing all the data, listening to and examining the “demonstration” organs the organ committee will then make recommendations to the Board of Elders regarding organ model, fund raising possibilities and when contract could be signed and installation expected. Watch for future updates in News and Notes and the Newsletter.
Financial Peace University Debt is all around us. More than 70% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. Over 35% of Christian marriages end in divorce, and money problems are the number one cause. Financial Peace University has a long history of helping families successfully confront these problems head on. The program is a biblically-based accountability curriculum that teaches you to manage God's money and resources in a godly way. It empowers you to make the right financial decisions to achieve your financial goals, teaching you to eliminate debt, build wealth, and give like never before. On average, families reduce their debt by $5,300 and save $2,700 in just 91 days. God has given us over 800 scriptures about money, showing us how to handle our finances His way. The Bible has a lot of interesting things to say about money, debt, and personal finance. Here are a few verses you can find in the Scripture on the subject. These videos will help you learn more about Financial Peace University. See how the program changes lives and imagine the difference it can make in your church and community as people learn how to handle money God's way. The curriculum includes: * A 13-week video series designed to teach families to eliminate debt and build wealth, led by financial expert Dave Ramsey * Small-group discussions for accountability and discipleship: Topics covering saving, cash flow planning, dumping debt, investing, insurance, real estate, giving, and MUCH more! This program will be offered at Salem this summer, lead by one of our members and pastors. The cost is $93 per family which includes access to the Financial Peace University website. Please contact the church office to reserve your position and make your payment. Any questions should be directed to Pastor Brechbuhl.
