A nun in a San Antonio school had her students write an essay on "What They Thought God Did In His Spare Time." The following is an interesting and amusing letter from an eight year old boy: "One of God's jobs is making people. He makes new ones to put in the place of the old ones who die, so there will always be enough people to take care of things on earth. He doesn't make grownups, just kids. I think it's because they are smaller and easier to make. That way He doesn't have to take up His valuable time teaching them how to walk and talk. He can just leave that up to Moms and Dads. I think this works out pretty good. God's second most important job is listening to prayers. An awful lot of this goes on, especially in Church and at bedtime. God sees everything, hears everything, and is everywhere, which keeps Him pretty busy. Jesus is God's son. He used to do all the hard work, like walking on water and doing miracles and trying to teach people about God who didn't want to learn. They finally crucified Him on a cross. He told His Father "Forgive them" and God said O.K. The Father liked everything Jesus had done...so He raised Him up to Heaven and told Him He could stay there. So Jesus did. And now He helps His Father out by listening to prayers. You can pray any time you want and they are sure to hear you because they've got it worked out so that at least one of them is on duty all the time." This child presents a comforting and basically true picture of God and his work through his Son. We recall the words of Jesus, "Unless you become as little children, you shall not enter the kingdom of Heaven."
